Last week Honda issued a press release announcing a new initiative in support of April being Distracted Driver Awareness month. In an effort to encourage safer driving habits, the automaker has launched a new social media video series under the hashtag #PhoneDownEyesUp which demonstrates the difficulty of doing two things at the same time.

The #PhoneDownEyesUp campaign consists of six videos that aim to demonstrate a simple premise: "if you can't text and complete an easy task, you certainly can't text and drive." The videos portray people attempting to text while performing everyday tasks such as cooking, cleaning, gardening, cutting hair, and exercising. The videos will be shared on Instagram, Facebook, and YouTube.

"Honda is deeply committed to enhancing the safety of everyone on the road, so it's imperative that we encourage everyone to stay focused, and remind them about the dangers of texting and other potential distractions while behind the wheel," said Susie Rossick, Assistant Vice President of Marketing at Honda. "This campaign is intended to be both relatable and sharable content that will reach millennials and deliver an easy-to-understand message about the very human limitations we all have when it comes to driving while distracted."

Honda has also made available a few smartphone lock screens that can serve as reminders for drivers to put the phone away when they get behind the wheel. More information can be found at www.honda.us/PhoneDownEyesUp.
