It's pretty obvious why brakes are so important. They give you the power to stop in time to keep you and your passengers safe and are vital to a vehicle. When they are in bad repair, this compromises your safety. But there are some things you can do to make sure your brakes stay in good condition. Just like an oil change needs to be done quite regularly, your brakes also need to be checked from time to time. But-when? A good rule of thumb to go by is every 12,000 miles or if it's been over a year. Sooner, if you hear squealing, grinding or if there are any funny smells. There are other indications as well. If your vehicle pulls to the side when you apply the brake, or if you can press the brake pedal all the way to the floor, then get your brakes serviced pronto.
